A short summary of what led up to 2020’s shot heard around the world (so far).
By now, if you read this blog, you’re probably well-aware that the US military has assassinated the Major General for the Iranian military force, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard, Qasem Soleimani.
This post will go through what led up to this.
The escalation started when a US military contractor was killed by katyusha rockets. The strange thing about it is I couldn’t find a confirmation about where the missiles came from. Evangelical freak Mike Pompeo suggested it was Kata’ib Hezbollah, and that narrative became cemented when the US military retaliated against Kata’ib Hezbollah. However, most sources say it wasn’t known for sure who attacked.
The US then launched an airstrike against Kata’ib Hezbollah. The airstrike killed 25. For the US war machine, there has to be at least 25 deaths for every 1 American death. And that’s for deaths in foreign countries. If it’s an attack in the US, it’s like 500 to 1.
In the midst of this, the US announced they were sending thousands of extra troops to Iran.
In reaction to the killing of 25 Kata’ib Hezbollah members, Iraqis stormed the US embassy in protest. They destroyed some of it, minor fire damage, vandalism etc, but were then repelled by Iraqi and US security.
Then, there were reports of, again, katyusha rockets being fired at Baghdad airport. I remember this specifically because the first breaking news, before Soleimani was announced dead, said this. Not long after, they were saying it was drone strikes.
Of course, it’s very likely the first, breaking reports were erroneous, but it is strange that the recent attack on the American contractor was by katyusha rockets, and so was this attack on Iran. I’m really not trying to imply any type of false flag, but this is a peculiar detail that got lost.
The drone strike killed Major General Soleimani, possibly the most powerful man in Iran, and one of the most well-liked political figures. They also killed bu Mahdi al-Muhandis, leader of ISIS fighting paramilitary, Popular Mobilisation Committee.
The Pnetagon then, unfoundedly claimed they stopped an attack against Americans, which is almost certainly bullshit.
Ayotollah Ali Khamenei called Soleimani a martyr, vowed revenge, and said “the US bears responsibility for all consequences of its rogue adventurism.”
I will keep my eye on this. To be honest, I think it’s important to write about this, but I don’t normally try to keep this blog up-to-date on the newest news (it’s more commentary) and it’s kind of exhausting because it’s so upsetting. However, this is something everyone n America should and can galvanize behind. A profoundly disgusting act by the US empire.
